Novi, Cambridge

Waking up and seeing the sun on Sunday made me feel like it was Spring — although this excitement only lasted until I stepped outside later and felt the bitter cold! I love it when it’s sunny in England, everyone seems so much happier. I wanted to make the most of it so I thought it would be nice to go have brunch in Cambridge (I don’t usually go out for brunch as I prefer going out for dinner instead). I’d heard of a fairly new place called Novi which looked really amazing from their website, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to check it out.

I called to check what times they served brunch until and the guy who answered the phone was so helpful, reading us the specials and telling us what the brunch menu was, which was super helpful as their website only had their drinks menus on it.

We arrived and the staff were super friendly, and thankfully they were totally cool with me snapping away with my camera trying to capture the experience for my first blog post.

I ordered a lovely filling smoothie of frozen banana, nut butter, cacao, blueberries and toasted almonds. Definitely one to try and recreate at home!! To eat I ordered avocado on sourdough toast with parma ham. I’m not usually keen on avocado, whenever I make it at home it tastes of soap! However today it tasted amazing, so there’s definitely something I’m doing wrong with my avocado game! It was so tasty, the parma ham really complemented the avocado and the nice sweet tomatoes were refreshing.

They brought over cucumber infused water which I’d heard of but never actually had — it was SO refreshing. I’m always trying to find new ways of drinking more water as really don’t drink as much as I should, so I love ways to make water more interesting (a tip of mine is frozen sliced lemon, it keeps for ages and it’s basically lemon and ice in one!)

After paying our bill I chatted to one of the staff and asked a bit more about the place. She took me upstairs where they had a big room for private events. There was also a terrace which is still being worked on and is not open yet, but it sounds like it’ll be great.

On the second floor they had an amazing cocktail bar. Sadly there was a private event there so I didn’t get to take any photos, but I’m looking forward to going back to try some cocktails — and I’ll make sure to post some photos too! I’ll just have to remember not to go too heavy on the cocktails as there’s quite a few stairs to navigate on the way down!!

Novi also has various visiting pop-up street food companies… and I definitely like the sound of the Paella Cocina and Steak and Honour… I will be back!

Let me know in the comments below if you been to Novi and how you found it!
