Abbots Ripton Hall Open Gardens

Yesterday I did something that I wasn’t expecting to do until well into the later part of my life… I went to an open gardens! Not really the most obviously interesting way for a 25 year old to spend her Saturday morning!

That being said, these were the open garden of Abbots Ripton Hall, where the AMAZING Secret Garden Party is held! So that’s what made it so appealing for me as SGP is a festival I’ve been returning to for many years. Seeing the gardens as they naturally are was so strange, I’m used to seeing it with thousands of people roaming around the endless muddy fields. It was also lovely to see the big house and the gardens that are closed off during the festival.

As we drove in it felt rather strange seeing parts of the festival still standing, but totally empty. I’m used to seeing beautiful colourful people enjoying music and having a great time! I couldn’t resist having a little air-guitar session on the stage where I’d seen John Newman and London Grammar perform in previous years… pretty cool stuff!!

It was lovely taking the time out of our weekend to get away from technology and just enjoy pottering around the grounds! The lake is stunning in the silence just as it is with the hustle and bustle of the festival crowd!

I was really surprised about how much was going on at the gardens. I wondered around looking at all the lovely plants and flowers, strolled under the archways of roses and listened to the live band entertaining people enjoying their afternoon tea with Abbots Ripton Hall as a beautiful backdrop. It was a really lovely way the spend a Saturday morning, and who knows, maybe I’ll be going to more open gardens now 😂

M said that at least we know we’ll enjoy being older, as it seems this is a very popular activity for the older generation!

Let me know if you’ve been to the Secret Garden Party before!
