Falling in Love with Mykonos

I’m currently writing this blog post sat in Mykonos airport feeling pretty sad as it’s time to head back to the rain, wind and cold… yes you guessed right, the UK, where we get the odd day of sun at best! (Okay, so I’m now back at home editing this post and experiencing this crazy heatwave, so maybe I got lucky and brought the good weather back with me!)

I’ve just spent the past 5 days falling in love with Mykonos! It’s another Greek island I can add to my list of places I must go back to. We only went for 5 days which is super do-able for a short break as flights take just less than 4 hours from Gatwick and they fly regularly.

After days and days of searching for the perfect hotel we found Pietra e Mare, which is featured in Small Luxury Hotels! We booked last minute and needed 3 rooms which turned out to be pretty hard in Mykonos, but luckily Pietra e Mare had the availability and I’m so glad they did.

It was such a lovely hotel! There’s whitewash walls everywhere and beautiful modern decor. We had a great view over the sea from our room and the hotel restaurant overlooked the bay. The sea was everywhere and I loved it!

The sun loungers around the pool were super comfortable and it was so nice being able to chill by the pool with the sea in the background, and being only a short walk down the hill to the beach.

Near the hotel there were 3 restaurants on the beach. We ate lunch at Solymar which was delicious, but pretty expensive and sadly not too authentic! We mostly headed to the square which is a longish walk, so we usually just jumped in the hotel taxi! There were plenty of Greek taverners and a lovely atmosphere with the locals walking around and the kids playing in the square.

Mykonos town itself was a bit of a longer taxi ride but totally worth it as it’s full of life. There’s plenty of alleyways with shops, taverners and bars, and great views of the sunset! I really want to come back and stay in the town next time! If you want to spend lots of time in the town I’d definitely recommend staying somewhere fairly near as the taxi from our hotel did get pricey going backwards and forwards. Luckily the hotel restaurant was reasonably priced and had really nice food!

I’ve eaten far too much tzatziki, pork souvlaki, moussaka, shrimps and Greek salad! Greek food is amazing and I’m really going to miss it when I’m back home!

Mykonos was beautiful. I’m so sad to be leaving!
