The sun was shining last weekend in Cambridge and it was just perfect for a picnic in the park, which makes a nice change from what I usually do in Cambridge… shop!
I finally had the chance to try out the Carluccio’s picnic hampers and I decided on the meat option as the menu looked yummy (they also have a vegetarian option). You can pre-book them up to 24 hours in advance (and then keep your fingers crossed that the weather forecast stays sunny)! It saves so much hassle buying and preparing all the food — perfect for a lazy Sunday in the sun.
We headed to a park a short walk away from the busy shopping centre and found the perfect spot on the grass to settled down. It was lovely watching the boats and punters go by surrounded by people playing tennis and families enjoying the sun. I can’t remember the last time I had a picnic, or even just sat on the grass and enjoyed the sun!
The “classic” picnic hamper we had included:
- Salami, pepper, artichoke and olive antipasti
- Citrus poached chicken breasts with salad
- Bruschettine bread with ricotta, mint and peas
- Goat’s cheese salad
- Focaccia with rosemary and sea salt
- Fig, hazelnut and chocolate biscuits
- Strawberry and pistachio cake slices
My favourite bits were the antipasti, bruschettine, goat’s cheese salad and the focaccia. I found the chicken was a little bland but that’s obviously just my taste. M seemed to enjoy it!
The hampers serve two people and I have to say the portion sizes are very good — M and I were perfectly full afterwards.
I would definitely pick up a Carluccio’s picnic again as it’s so tasty and convenient. I’d highly recommend them!
You also have the option to order children’s picnics and wine (ideally not together!).
Let me know in the comments if you’ve had one before and what you thought.
I discovered Carluccio’s picnic hampers a while ago and I was really keen to find out more and to try one. After talking to Carluccio’s about them they very kindly offered me this complementary hamper to review on my blog. All views and opinions in this post are my own.
