I love getting a new cookbook. Sometimes I just pick one to look through while relaxing to get some good ideas, other times before we go food shopping I get a few out and pick recipes to plan what we need to buy that week.
I hadn’t been out for cocktails in ages and when I saw Guerrilla Kitchen was a pop-up at Novi I couldn’t resist going to try them out and having a cocktail or two!
This is possibly the quirkiest and coolest place ever! From the outside Sketch is a beautiful old London building, and despite the bold imposing animal on the wall it was the perfect place for a pleasant bit of tea and cake to get me through my London shopping trip.
How have I not had a Steak and Honour burger before!? One word… AMAZING! Definitely the type of burger you want to eat with no-one watching because it’s very juicy and messy, but it’s SO worth it. With that much flavour I didn’t care in the slightest about having sauce all over my face!!
When I told Michael we were going to an ice cream parlour for lunch he laughed and said “that’s not lunch!”
I was cold and stuffed on Sunday afternoon after the Love Food festival, but I’m slowly warming up now (if you knew how rubbish our underfloor heating is you would understand!). The festival was on over 13th–14th February and I am glad I chose to go on the chilly but sunny Sunday as Saturday was rainy and cold! It was a perfect little chilled-out Valentine’s Day wonder. I remember seeing it advertised last year however I couldn’t make it so I’m glad I managed to go this year.
I find Valentine’s Day really cheesy… or perhaps I’ve just grown up and realised that most shops are probably just after your money! Why should there only be one day a year where we focus on love and romantic gestures!? I never like going out on Valentine’s Day as the restaurants are so busy and full of couples. Instead, this year I’ve decided we should celebrate with just a nice movie and some delicious cupcakes to mark the “occasion”! Pretty chilled out but sometimes it’s nice just stop and relax!
I bared the cold weather last night to go out in Cambridge to see the e-Luminate Festival. I’m so glad I did as Cambridge looked so lovely all lit up in glorious colour. It was amazing to see so much focus on all the intricate details on some of the most iconic buildings in Cambridge. It made me realise just how much I hadn’t looked up in the past to appreciate them!
Last weekend when I was leaving Cambridge I drove past Pho. At first I was wondering how I’d not noticed it before, but later I learnt it was brand new and hadn’t opened yet. First thoughts… YESSSS… we’re getting another great restaurant coming to town! I’ve never been to a Pho restaurant before but my sister has recommended it in the past, and I LOVE Vietnamese food.
Waking up and seeing the sun on Sunday made me feel like it was Spring — although this excitement only lasted until I stepped outside later and felt the bitter cold! I love it when it’s sunny in England, everyone seems so much happier. I wanted to make the most of it so I thought it would be nice to go have brunch in Cambridge (I don’t usually go out for brunch as I prefer going out for dinner instead). I’d heard of a fairly new place called Novi which looked really amazing from their website, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to check it out.
