Last Christmas Michael bought me my first beauty advent calendar and I loved it. It was so good trying out so many new products! This year he got me the Cowshed Advent Calendar which has been great so far, Cowshed is a brand I’ve really enjoyed over the past few years. I did eye up the Jo Malone and Diptyque ones but they’re just silly amounts of money… so for now I’ll just keep dreaming that one day I might get one!
I knew I wanted to do something special for him this year as beauty advent calendars aren’t cheap! I noticed there wasn’t a lot of choice for guys on the market unless you just want a bob-standard chocolate one. ASOS did do one for men this year but I knew it wasn’t Michael’s thing. After a bit of thinking I thought why not make my own!?
When I was younger I remember my mum, sister and I made our own calendars that lasted years. We made it out of two Christmas tea towels that we sewed together and added pockets and numbers. Each year my mum would fill them with pencils, rubbers, sweets and goodies — it was always a surprise and it’s a tradition I’d love to do with my children one day… in like 10 years time! Don’t worry, I’m not planning children anytime soon!!
I was pushed for time so I didn’t get crafty with sewing, instead I ordered these boxes which came flat-packed. Trust me though, even making them was a pain! I’m writing this in December just as I finished them (I’m always so last minute dot com) so I’d recommend if you want to do this for your other half definitely do 12 days of Christmas rather than 24!!

You might be thinking well what the heck do I put in 24 boxes!? Seriously help! Well, that’s the best thing, you can do it to suit him. Here’s some of the ideas that went into Michael’s: a mini hand cream, sweets, a note which was a clue where a present was hiding (a Christmas Jumper on day 3 for the day we got the tree!), chocolate coins, a chocolate snowman, Christmas socks, Bathbombs and Christmas tree decoration. I’ve really enjoyed thinking of little bits I can add to it. At first buying 24 items was pretty scary but it actually filled up pretty quickly!
I bought some string from Kikki.k however you could use ribbon to hang them up with, and the little pegs I used are from Flying Tiger.
I really loved this idea and wanted to share it with you all. Let me know if I’ve tempted you to make your own or if you’ve done something similar!
