Amélie: Flammekueche has come to Cambridge!

On Friday night M and I snuck out and left Arthur (our puppy if you haven’t met him yet) with my Mum. I’m seriously not used to having a puppy, it’s like having a baby! We headed to the Grafton and got to Amelie which is upstairs near the cinema. We sat down and ordered bread, houmous and olives. The houmous was delicious, really light and smooth! By that point I was excited to try out the main as the starter was so good!

I ordered the prawn flammekueche which had crème fraîche, sliced onions, kings prawns, spinach, tomatoes and capers, and it was super tasty and a little spicy. M went for the pulled pork Flammekueche and that was soooo good, next time I’m definitely getting that one too! I want to try out the Parma ham one but it had sold out so it’s an excuse to go back soon!

We weren’t flammekueche’d out so we went for round two… pudding! We ordered the cinnamon apple flammekueche which was nice — we’re both sweet tooths and hoped the apples were a bit softer and more fried/caramelised and that it had more sugar and cinnamon — but there were plenty of other options so we’ll definitely be back to try the others!

I really enjoyed our meal and I liked the fact it was nice and light. It’s definitely going to be my new alternative to pizza, probably a lot more healthy option too for lunch in Cambridge! I’m so glad they opened it’s such a refreshing new option!

I wanted to touch on the background of the restaurant as it’s nice to not have another big chain coming to Cambridge. It’s a family run restaurant from Régis Crépy who has previously owned and run well-respected restaurants in Suffolk. Their son Alex is managing the place he was super friendly and has obviously trained the waitresses and waiters well as they were all friendly and helpful. I also got to chat to their daughter Amélie who the restaurant is named after, and it was so nice hearing more about their story.

I’m really excited to see them grow and I can see them getting a van and going around festivals as the food so great it would work so well!

Disclaimer: I was invited to try out Amelie as a complimentary meal. I really enjoyed the food and wanted to share it with you guys. If you’re ever in Cambridge you should definitely try it out!
